Euro area industrial producer prices up 0.6%, EU27 up 0.5%

EurostatIn February 2008 compared with January 2008, the industrial producer price index rose by 0.6% in the euro area (EA15) and by 0.5% in the EU27. In January prices increased by 0.9% and 1.1% respectively. In February 2008 compared with February 2007, industrial producer prices gained 5.3% in the euro area and 6.1% in the EU27. These figures come from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities.

Monthly changes: In February 2008, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector gained 0.5% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector increased by 1.1% and 0.7% respectively. Intermediate goods rose by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.7% in the EU27. In both zones, capital goods, durable consumer goods and non-durable consumer goods all gained 0.3%.

Among Member States for which data is available, the highest increases were registered in Slovakia (+2.5%), Belgium (+1.5%) and Slovenia (+1.4%). The only decreases were recorded in Luxembourg (-3.3%) and Denmark (-0.7%).

Annual changes: In February 2008, compared with February 2007, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 3.6% in the euro area and by 3.8% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 11.7% and 13.5% respectively. Non-durable consumer goods gained 4.7% in the euro area and 4.8% in the EU27. Intermediate goods increased by 4.1% and 4.5% respectively. In both zones, durable consumer goods gained 2.2%. Capital goods rose by 1.5% in the euro area and by 1.6% in the EU27.

Among Member States for which data is available, the highest increases were observed in Lithuania (+17.3%), Bulgaria (+14.0%) and Romania (+13.6%), and the lowest in Germany (+3.8%), Luxembourg (+4.2%) and Finland (+4.7%).
