Air Malta has said that it would like to inform its customers that following Malta's entry into the Schengen area, air passengers travelling to or from Malta to other countries within the Schengen zone will be able to travel without having to go through the customary passport control.
Separate halls for arrivals from Schengen and non-Schengen countries at Malta International Airport have been introduced, and distinct boarding gates have been allocated to flights destined to non-Schengen areas.
As a result of entry into the Schengen area Air Malta has also changed terminals/halls and has started operating to/from the following terminals at the following airports:
| Airport | Old Terminals | New Schengen Terminal - effective 30th March 2008 |
| Amsterdam, AMS | Terminal 3 | Terminals 1 & 2 |
| Berlin, TXL | Terminal B | Terminal C |
| Budapest, BUD | Terminal 2B | Terminal 2A |
| Dusseldorf, DUS | Hall C | Hall B |
| Prague, PRG | Terminal 1 | Terminal 2 |
| Rome, FCO | Terminal C | Terminal B |
All other terminals have remained unchanged.
It is important to note that passengers must still carry passports or ID cards when travelling. These documents must be presented at check-in for proof of identity and may also be requested for security reasons.
