Ghajnsielem Bells Project becoming a reality

Cornille-Havard
The long desired project of a set of bells that will crown the majestic bell tower of Ghajnsielem church seems to have appeared again on the horizon.

In a meeting held last Sunday with the parish priests, members of the parish financial committee and others, Archpriest Fr. Frank Bajada announced that the parish is embarking on this very ambitious project to have a new set of bells for the church.

Also present at the meeting was Mr. Paul Bergamo, general manager of the French bell-foundry Cornille-Havard in Normandy. Archpriest Bajada also said that after several months of consultations with several professionals in this matter, the decision to choose the French foundry for such a project can now be taken and announced.

A public meeting about the matter was also held on Friday the 2nd of May at the Parish Centre Hall. The set of bells proposed is somewhat unique, as it is proposed to have eight bells hung in the lower part of the bell tower. The biggest bell will be a 5-tonne Fa with a diameter of slightly more than two metres. The whole ensemble can also provide the ringing of the Ave Maria of Fatima.

Two steps are now required for the project to proceed, these are the necessary permits and the necessary funds.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this project can contact the Archpriest on 79710784 or by email to arcfrankie@yahoo.com.
