According to the ongoing frontier survey, tourist departures in January 2008 are estimated at 63,850, implying an increase of 23.4 per cent over the same month a year ago.
The increase primarily reflects a rise in holiday makers, mainly from Germany, France and Spain. By contrast, a decrease was registered in tourists from the United Kingdom, Libya and Russia.
Meanwhile, total nights spent increased by 14.0 per cent when compared to January 2007. Overall, the average length of stay is calculated at 8.0 nights, down by 0.6 nights when compared to the corresponding month a year ago.
