Gozo channel traffic increases by 15 percent

There was an increase of around 15 percent in the number of both passengers and vehicles crossing the channel between Gozo and Malta during the first three months of this year.

Figures published by the National Statistics Office show that 771,961 passengers travelled on the ferries between January and March, an increase of 15.1 percent over the same quarter last year, whilst passenger vehicles crossing between the two islands during the same period increased by 14.5 percent to 210,814.

A total of 4,523 crossings were made by Gozo Channel Ferries between the two islands, representing an increase of 4.9 percent over the same period last year.

The busiest vessel was the MV Malita, which carried 332,691 or 46.7 percent of the total passengers, whilst the MV Ta’ Pinu and the MV Gaudos carried 207,087 and 172,184 passengers respectively.
