A twenty-one-year-old Nadur man has been charged with possessing a quantity of stuffed birds, including 114 birds which are protected by Maltese law.
The birds were found during searches at a residence in Nadur whilst the police were conducting investigations relating to illegal hunting.
A further 47 stuffed birds were found which were not protected species.
Police investigations are continuing.

Back home in the Low countries, we tend to reverse the process by stuffing the culprit, to see whats it like for the shoe to be on the other foot. Just a thought, No Disrespect to the authorities who are doing a fine job.Well Done .
Oh really Mr.Boris, don’t be so cruel,i have a better idea, instead of a prison sentence, why not sign this guy for a 2 year spell in say Afghanistan or better still Iraq, that way he can have the time of his life by shooting the enemy as oppose to shooting protected birds, How about it guys??
Yes I like it,this reminds me when in the olden days my government the British government of the time, transported convicts to Australia, now the new generation aussies are earning millions and living a good life style. Of course Iraq is a different story, they are dying by the hundreds and living a miserable life, not fit for a dog or a bird if there are any left? protected or otherwise. This has got nothing to do with the column so what is the moral of this report? Well I thought I would just post my free speech or comment or feedback. Thats all.
Listen instead of giving bird trappers and hunters the raw deal. Look at what is happening here in Gozo first. There is nothing for men young or old to do. There is no good paying jobs and alot of these hunters do this for a living by selling these birds they have. I am not saying it is right at all in the killing of protected birds I am all against that kind of thing. But if the government would try and bring business back to Gozo it would help the people here a lot.
Yes your’re 100% correct Mr.Muscat, we understand your point and its true what you say, if there is more work and scope for the younger generation on the island of Gozo, then perhaps things will be different, but thats up to the government of the day to see that Gozo is not left out, its seems to us here in the UK, that Malta is always first in line to benefit from the EEC funding, and Gozo comes second. Its a shame really because Gozo and the Gozitans are really a nice folk and tend to come over alot friendlier to us foreigners then the main island, which is unfortunately is getting just as bad as the main big cities in the UK and around Europe as a whole., Out the two we prefer to see Gozo getting ahead both in tourisim, which of course means more jobs for the people. They deserve it. Good Luck My friends.
Thanks Wilfred, thats really nice of you to say that about Gozo, I daresay we really appreciate your gesture, but alas if only your gesture will come true and the government will act on it, as someone said a while back, what is the point of having a lot of capital if one cannot spend it, besides there are NO shops in Heaven, and the departed will only take one item with them, and thats their black suit or dress, or pyjamas.
The stuffing of the culprit is a funny idea. I would threaten to do it if someone stuffs protected birds.
How is it the stuffed birds were not sold. Now is it still true that the Bird-life people are (as alleged) shooting the protected birds so that they will have something to complain about.
