A 60 year-old man is in danger of losing his life after falling in San
Gwann, while helping workers carrying things up a flight of stairs.
The incident happened at around 1500CET in Triq il-Gallina, San Gwann. An ambulance rushed the man to hospital where he was certified to be suffering from life threatening injuries and is in danger of losing his life.- HSBC offers Energy Boom opportunities

Emirates Airline today unveiled a new landmark for London, a giant
model of an Airbus A380 at the gateway to Heathrow Airport. The
45-tonne world record contender was unveiled this morning at the
Emirates Roundabout by the airline's President Tim Clark.

Transport Minister Austin Gatt has launched a document proposing public
transport reform within the context of environmental sustainability.

UPDATE Two children, aged 12 and 15, are in danger of losing their life after
being involved in a traffic accident in Cospicua, the police said in a
statement. The incident happened at around 1100CET in Triq it-Tlett
Ibliet, Cospicua.

be open up to August 14th after which date patients would be required

In June 2008, the Retail Price Index went up by 0.36 %over the previous
month, the National Statistics Office said in a statement published on
Wednesday.
This primarily reflected an increase of 1.79 %in the Transport and Communications Index, mainly due to price rises in fuels. The Beverages and Tobacco Index went up by 0.69 %, mainly on account of higher prices of served non- alcoholic beverages.- HSBC and BOV are running a cartel - GRTU

GRTU is accusing HSBC and BOV of “abusing their dominant market
position and acting collusively together local banks, in a de facto
cartel.” with regards to the withdrawal of MasterCard inter-change
charges on retailers who accept payments by customers on MasterCard
Credit Cards.
GRTU said in a statement that “Following the decision of the EuropeanCommission of 19thDecember 2007 ordering MasterCard to withdraw the inter-change charges they impose through the local banks on retailers who accept pay-ments by customers onMasterCardCredit Cards, MasterCard has declared that it will comply with the European Commission and completely withdraw its cross-border interchange fees as of 21st June 2008.”- Maltese doctor leads cancer breakthrough research

Dr Johann de Bono, a Maltese researcher working in London, has led
trials of what could be the most significant breakthrough in the field of
medicines to combat prostate cancer in years. The trials are for a drug
called ‘abiraterone’ which, it is believed, can shrink tumours in up to
80% of cases.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of fatal tumors especially among middle-aged and senior men, so there is good cause for elation in de Bono’s discoveries as this could mean that thousands of lives are saved.- Detailed clarifications by AFM on Simshar rescues

The Armed Forces of Malta has issued a statement stating details of its
rescue operations in regard to Theo Bugeja, the 11 year-old boy who is
still missing from the loss of the local fishing vessel Simshar.
The statement includes a rescue log showing the number of operations conducted since July 13th, missions that were coordinated by Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) Malta and that included the participation of assets from the AFM, the Italian Military Mission in Malta, the Italian Navy and Guardia Di Finanza and the US Navy 6th Fleet.- AFM rescue two children and two men from sea

Two children and two men were rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta’s after they found themselves in difficulty while swimming.

The EU LIFE Yelkouan Shearwater Project has presented the initial
findings of the telemetry work that has been carried out over the last
six months and revealed that to date, one of the Yelkouan Shearwater
chicks which was fitted with a satellite tag has travelled as far as
Greece and another to the coast of Egypt.
A team of BirdLife Malta and Heritage Malta scientists have been fitting electronic tags to Yelkouan Shearwaters from the Rdum tal-Madonna colony over the last few months.- CCTV monitoring pilot project launched in Paceville

On Tuesday, the Malta Tourism Authority launched a pilot project which
uses a network of six VVTV cameras with the aim of reinforcing the
monitoring of Tourism Zones. For now, this pilot project will focus on
St Julian’s with particular emphasis on Paceville.
These monitoring devices, apart from providing a deterrent, will offer the opportunity of round-the-clock surveillance of these sensitive zones, they will help officers identify possible illicit behaviour and will provide the opportunity for law enforcement officers to take remedial action.- MIM welcomes rent reform White Paper

The Malta Institute of Management has welcomed the Government’s
publication of the White Paper on rent reform as a step in the right
direction to solve one of the longest standing injustice with property
owners.

The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise has officially endorsed the
GreenPak Scheme, the only authorised waste packaging recovery scheme in Malta, for the recovery of packaging waste.
As a result of this endorsement, Chamber members who sign up with GreenPak will be fully compliant with the requirements of the Packaging Waste regulations set by LN277/2006, which requires companies to recover and recycle packaging waste put on the market by their businesses.- 54 illegal immigrants brought ashore on Tuesday

A total of 54 men, all illegal immigrants, were escorted ashore by the Armed Forces of Malta on Tuesday evening. The AFM escorted two boats to Wied il-Buni, Birzebbugia, each carrying 27 men aboard.
They were brought ashore at around 0730CET, according to a statement by the police.

A 35 year-old man has been arrested after he was allegedly involved in
a theft from a store in Qormi, the police said in a statement.
The incident happened at around 0300CET in Canon Road, when the police were alerted of the possible theft and went on site to check. When police officers from the mobile squad arrived, a man was walking close to the indicated location and started acting suspiciously. After speaking briefly with the police he went on his way and left the site by car.
