Voting commenced at 7.00am this morning in the tenth general election since Independence, a total of 309,016 potential voters have until 10.00pm this evening to cast their vote.
There are 169 candidates standing for the general election, 76 for the Nationalist Party, 70 for the Labour Party, 9 for Alternattiva Demokratika, 9 for Azzjoni Nazzjonali and 5 independents.
After the polls close at 10.00pm the ballot boxes will be transferred to the new counting hall at the Naxxar trade fair grounds and the vote counting will start.
An indication of the result of the election is not expected until around noon tomorrow.
