Nature Trust (Malta) has said that it welcomes the MEPA auditor’s report on the Mistra case. The NGO added that the Mistra case has again shown how the DCC boards for ODZ has again taken a decision going against environmental protection, moreover granting development in a Natura 2000 site which should deserve the top most protection level from the authorities.
The NGO urged the government to take all possible measure to reverse this decision and ensure that this designated Natura 2000 site is protected to the full, and to ensure that similar development applications are not even considered in the future.
Nature Trust said it now hopes that, with MEPA now under the Prime Minister’s responsibility, the long awaited reform is carried out without further delay, to guarantee environmental protection and equal weighting in future decisions. Moreover the NGO urges that the MEPA boards should also have more environmentalists appointed on them.
