The caseload at the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) has increased to 4,768 during the month of January 2008, as the Authority received 587 new applications and decided 537 applications.
During January, the Authority processed 74 notifications of development, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2001, do not require a formal application. MEPA also issued 41 Stop and Enforcement notices, 32 in Malta and 9 in Gozo.
30 enforcement cases were closed, 14 in Malta and 16 in Gozo. Another 18 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit, 11 cases were resolved since owners decided to remove illegal development and comply with enforcement notices, whilst one case was withdrawn by MEPA.
