The Health Division has said that it is prepared to have further discussions with the General Workers Union regarding the industrial action being taken by nursing aides, health assistants, care workers and assistant care workers in government hospitals and health centres. The division also called on the union to suspend their industrial actions, in order to stop causing patients needless suffering.
The industrial action began on Friday after the GWU was informed that the Health Division and the Office of the Prime Minister were only prepared to consider making changes to the number of working hours and would not change their stance on the workers’ premium allowances and the jobs scale. The union said that it could no longer tolerate delays in finding solutions to the situation, prompting it to order the industrial action.
