Forty members of the Gozo Model Flying Association (GMFA), who together own over 100 aircraft models, over the weekend displayed their treasured models during an exhibition mounted within the hall of the Gozo Seminary in Victoria. This association has been representing Gozitan model flying enthusiasts for the past sixteen years, who practice their favourite sport at a site in the limits of Ta’ Xhajma, allocated to the association by virtue of an agreement with the Ministry for Gozo.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, who addressed those present for the inaugurating ceremony, commended the members of this association for their continued effort to promote this sporting activity in Gozo. Through the constant dedication of the association’s committee, this sport has gained considerable followship amongst Gozitans who regularly meet and take part in national and international events to promote this hobby. The Ministry for Gozo has been supporting this association mostly through the maintenance of the site assigned for the use by the GMFA members. This site will be incorporated in the planned works connected with the surrounding area which is to be announced in the coming months.
This exhibition, set up for the occasion of the Gozo 1234 event, was held from Friday 2nd May to Sunday 4th May 2008. Miniature model war vehicles and ships painstakingly built by various Maltese and Gozitan enthusiasts were also exhibited. The GMFA is a member of the Non-Governmental Organisations Association and can be contacted through the Gozo NGO Centre in Xewkija on 21565492.
