After a much longer wait than is usual, Nationalist Party Secretary General Joe Saliba has just announced that based on the information which his party has at hand, the Nationalist Party has won the 2008 General Election.
The margin by which his party won the election is put at a mere 1200 votes.
It is understood that, given such a narrow margin, an absolute majority of votes will not be achieved.
Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Michael Falzon, has said that, as it is so close, the MLP will await the 1st count of its candidates before making an announcement.
Update: Malta Labour Party (MLP) deputy leader Michael Falzon has conceded defeat. Mr Falzon said that counting of first count votes has been concluded and that the Nationalist Party is preferred by approximately 0.5% of the electorate and around 1,500 of votes.
