With the current highest ever Super 5 jackpot, the GRTU is complaining that people are neglecting to buy staple goods, including food, and are instead spending more on Super 5 tickets.
The GRTU complained that it was never consulted when the government removed the previous limits on the jackpot, which it said had originally been introduced on their insistence. The union added that businesses are reporting a slump in sales and that the government should intervene.
Lotto booths are expected to be inundated with customers during the course of this week in the run-up to next Wednesday's Super 5 lottery, which now has a jackpot of Lm500,000.
