What should we do: Just grin and bear it?

What should we do: Just grin and bear it?
While we appreciate the government's initiative to promote Gozo through music, dance and a whole lot more, many are perplexed.

Where's Everbody, the company/venture responsible for the much touted Gozo 1234, will be running the whole show, at least in Victoria.

Essentially, this means that they will be providing all the food and drinks to the revellers. Not one café or bar owner was consulted on this important matter, not even the Victoria local council.

To add insult to injury, the said owners will not be permitted to put up a stall in front of their own premises. What should we do: Just grin and bear it?

We’re from overseas, and visit Gozo regularly on our frequent trips, however this year’s gozo festival was a bit of a letdown and a washout to our liken, its a pity really because Gozo is a lot better island then Malta, the people are friendlier and must add ALOT cleaner and beautiful then Malta, thats why we see the maltese and tourists coming over for such festivities as oppose to the other way . yet the maltese seems to treat this beautiful island as second class country.. why that is we cannot comprehend –Why? don’t know? it should be the other way round and Gozo should be at the top and a bit more co-ordination between the two islands for the benefit of the Gozitans and its tradition as a peaceful and tranquil island in the Med. if Not the whole of the mediterranean. Reno,

It’s a shame for Where’s Everybody . . It’s our donkey and we don’t even ride on it.

One word of warning. Do not let them slaughter Gozo.
These ramping events in my opinion will continue coming on your island for better or for worse.
As you have seen they dont care what the shop keeper or the local council has to say. They are not doing it for Gozo but for the maltese public and for politiocal discource.

One last thing if this keep happening this way without consultation by the locals of all levels then they will use the statistical figures attained from these events to justify development the way it was done in the sliema/St Julians region.

Just keep an eye out its your island and noone else’s

The powers that be in Victoria seem to have totally lost the plot.

I work with tourists and hear many complaints about the rural tranquil calm of Gozo (for which many tourists come/came) being shattered by a never ending stream of events - always accompanied by very loud music throughout the night.

In addition certain bars have been allowed to get totally out of hand on weekends, with loud music and drunken teenagers ruining the lives of local residents and visiting tourists alike. To the point were a number of such people say they do not feel safe passing certain bars at night.

Many of these tourists and locals come up with the same statement - Victoria is now just like Paceville.

Lets hope that the ministry, local council and police take some action before it is too late.

Traditional family bars such as Leno’s should be given every encouragement to thrive - the other bars should be quickly and effectively brought under proper control.

I live in Malta and unfortunately have to agree with the comments here.

We previously used to stay in Gozo on a regular basis, simply to escape the rat-race, noise and pollution in Malta.

Sadly I now have to say that we encounter the same problems in Gozo and can no longer enjoy a peaceful relaxing break.

I hope that someone in power has the wisdom to comprehend what is happening on our sister island and the courage to do something about it.

Just as in the UK.. no point shouting and balling, as all these comments are just going through deaf ears.. your present authorities are the same as in the UK, just do not want to hear the truth except for their own benefit., I am alright jack so to speak.

You guys need to stand up for yourselves, so put some discontented comments, someone out there MIGHT listen, sooner or MUCH later, when its too bl**dy late.

But for gods sake, don’t let this beautiful island go down the drain same as Malta, i.e. Paceville and its outcasts.

Remember there is no place like Home!

Which are those outlets in Victoria who signed the agreement with WE prior to the celebrations? Having an honest answer would help understand the Gozitan mentality.
