Updated: Government denies report.
Carmel Cacopardo Alternattiva Demokratika (AD) Spokesman on Sustainable Development and Local Government refers to the Prime Minister's visit to Italy carried out last week and to the reports in the Italian Press on this visit.
In particular he refers to the article in the newspaper Il- Sole 24 Ore signed by journalist Federico Rendina entitled "Il Governo rilancia sull'atomo. Berlusoni: contatti per costruire centrali nucleari nei Paesi vicini."

"In this article the author implies that Berlusconi could be thinking of Malta together with Albania and Montenegro as suitable sites for the construction of a nuclear plant. Whilst our party hope that this is pure speculation on the part of the author, we consider that it is necessary for the Prime Minister to confirm or otherwise the said statement." concluded Carmel Cacopardo.
Update: The Office of the Prime Minister has issued a statement saying that the newspaper report was purely a speculative one and denied that there were any discussions of this sort between the Italian Prime Minister and Dr Gonzi.
The statement added that it expected AD to act responsibly and not publish a statement about a speculative piece in an Italian newspaper.

Of course the story of a nuclear power plant is true. Like a bunch of sheep, Malta’s prime minister will sell these islands for a nuclear power plant.
