Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson Dr. Harry Vassallo has said that there is a great thirst for a new kind of politics and that it is only with Alternattiva Demokratika, that we can radically change the politics of the country for the better. AD has the experience. It is consistent in its purpose and activities. Dr Vassallo said “Our slogan is Change, because we offer a change in the mentality and way politics is done in our country. This is really something new. The other two major parties are stuck in the same place: continuous competitive politics and politics that favor the interests of those who finance them.”

He went on to say that open minded and mature people do not resort to propaganda based on fear and half-truths. People today want a guarantee that politics will be a serious endeavor in which all the nation is served. It is only when Alternattiva is in a coalition government that this guarantee is secured and that nothing is thrown under the carpet. With Alternattiva in Parliament, no Prime Minister will be able to play with words. He will have to discuss, consult, and do politics in the open, as in any mature democracy.”

Dr. Vassallo said that after the next election no party would have absolute power to do whatever the party wants and to favor its own close friends. Dr.Vassallo reiterated, “In a coalition government, formed in any way, Alternattiva Demokratika assures the citizens that the government will not act arrogantly or disrespectfully toward anyone no matter who they are without any discrimination. We have done this before. In a coalition government, we will be able to assure a much better behavior than we have seen before. To be a part of a coalition, the new government will have to employ the politics of strict merit. Not only will everybody receives what is her/his due, but also everybody will be convinced that favoritism is not practiced. Everybody will have an opportunity devoid of opportunism. Therefore, nobody will be left behind. Ability and justice will be the rule not the loyalty to a party.”

In his closing comments, Dr. Vassallo mentioned that with AD in parliament and a part of the coalition government there will be a guarantee that issues of national importance will be brought to light and not be hidden under the carpet. A vote for the PN or the MLP will not change anything in Malta and Gozo. Whoever wants a real change, seriousness, pluralism and true democracy will vote AD.”
