Paintings at the Xaghra parish church have been undergoing intensive restoration and conservation. The restoration project also included the gilding of the stone sculptural features as well as the installation of six stained glass windows for the cupola lantern.
The cupola, dedicated to the Consecration of St Publius, was painted by Virginio Monti. The restoration work was carried out by the restorer Manwel Zammit, of Zejtun in Malta, whilst the gilding and stained glass windows was carried out by Gozitan craftsmen.
The project will be blessed by Archbishop Paul Cremona in a special ceremony to be held on Monday as part of the programme of activities on the occasion of the Xaghra feast of Our Lady of Victories.
