The council of the Cathedral parish in Victoria has welcomed the appointment of Mgr Guzepp Attard as the new Archpriest and promised him its full support. The council has also urged all parishioners to help Mgr Attard in his mission and thanked the outgoing Archpriest, Mgr Joe Vella Gauci.
However, the Leone Philharmonic Society, the Cathedral parish band club, has again spoken out against the removal of Mgr Vella Gauci and urged parishioners to show their disapproval in a civil manner. They have called for a boycott of any services in which the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, is taking part, and also a boycott of the Cathedral radio station.
The society has also reiterated its anger at the "absurd" way in which the change of archpriest was carried out, saying that for the past 40 years, it had been consulted regularly on the choice of its spiritual director.
The society further reiterated that it deplored the way Mgr Vella Gauci had been substituted by "someone who never had any connection with the Cathedral parish community" and reaffirmed its unconditional loyalty to Mgr Vella Gauci.
