Three men were held by the police after they were caught attempting to smuggle a number of birds into Gozo at Mgarr ix-Xini late last night. The men were arrested following surveillance by the anti-drugs squad and Gozo police.
The three men, two Gozitans and one Maltese, were observed unloading a number of boxes from their boat. When the boxes were opened, a considerable number of birds were found.
The birds have been seized and quarantined by the police, and further investigations are currently underway.
