The stock of motor vehicles rose by 2,388 in the third quarter of 2007, to stand at 285,353. As at end September 2007, the stock of licensed motor vehicles stood at 285,353. Of these, 76.0% were private vehicles, while commercial vehicles made up 16.3%.
New licences issued during the third quarter of 2007 amounted to 3,240. Private vehicles accounted for 2,350 new licences, or 72.5% of the total. In the reference quarter, the majority of new licences were issued to private vehicles falling within ‘Class 1′ (<1300 cc). This class accounted for 1,424 new licences, while vehicles in ‘Class 2′ (1301-1449 cc) accounted for 286. Newly-licensed ‘new’ motor vehicles amounted to 1,973, or 60.9% of the total, while newly-licensed ‘used’ motor vehicles amounted to 1,267, or 39.1% of the total.
664 vehicles were scrapped in the period under review. Private vehicles accounted for 574 scrapped vehicles, or 86.4%. At 405, ‘Class 1′ vehicles (<1300 cc) accounted for the largest proportion of scrapped vehicles.
Exported vehicles amounted to 43, an increase of 34 over the second quarter of 2007
