On Sunday the 27th of April, the Gozo Sports Complex, together with the Gozo Spirit Combat Int. Association, organized the second edition of the Gozo Martial Arts Festival. Four clubs took part in this event, namely the Gozo Spirit Combat Club, the TAO Spirit Combat Club, the Zanshin Spirit Combat Club and the ATMA Spirit Combat Club.
The competitions were refereed by Master Mario Saliba and the judging panel was composed of Master Gerard Vassallo, Sensei Charles Mizzi and Sensei Paul Caruana. The tournament included four types of competitions namely viking combat, back to back ground wrestling, free-style free-hand kata and free-style weapon kata. All competitions were categorized in juniors and seniors sections. Over thirty-five competitors participated in this event. All students exhibited excellent techniques in the various competitions. The GSCA Martial Artist of the Year 2008 was awarded to the young Marie Therese Camilleri.
This activity was backed by a Kick Boxing session lead by Kancho Adrian Axisa held on Saturday. The Gozo Kick Boxing Club and the Ying Yang Kick Boxing Club took part in this event.
The Gozo Sports Complex, through the Directorate Customer Services, Ministry for Gozo, continually strive to achieve the highest standards where sport activities and quality opportunities in Gozo are concerned.
