The general election is to be held as widely expected on March the 8th, the Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi, has announced this morning.
Earlier this morning, the Prime Minister called on the President of Malta, Dr Eddie Fenech-Adami, and asked him to dissolve Parliament.
On the same day as the general election, a third of the electorate will also be casting their vote in the local council elections.
Around 300,000 voters are estimated to be eligible to vote in the coming general election.
