Print Story
C.S. Lawrence is a Maltese-born artist whose life spent in Africa and the Middle East is reflected in her art, where her highly original contemporary style blends with the exotic influences she has absorbed.
Caroline Lawrence is by no means a newcomer to the world of art as her immediate acceptance at St. Martin’s School of Art in London signalled an auspicious step in the right direction. Her ten-year art career in the Arabian Gulf can only be described as stellar; all her exhibitions that featured her richly detailed watercolours of eastern interiors were sell-outs.
With her attention now turned to Maltese, and more recently, Gozitan landscapes Lawrence has once again developed a style that reflects the rugged surfaces and glowing colours that surround us, a style that draws one into the very essence of the Islands.
This exhibition also clearly shows Lawrence’s artistic development, with her subtle and intriguing use of surface textures and mixed media, all of which enhance the powerful faces she is well known for. Lawrence applies the same fusion of varied textures and vivid colour to her new series of breath-taking landscapes of Gozo. Together, the portraits and landscapes reveal the artist’s amazing versatility and make for a captivating visual experience.
C.S. Lawrence’s exhibition is being held at the Sinclair Stevenson Gallery at 59, Trux Street, Gharb, Gozo, with proceeds going to the Friends of the Sick and Elderly, Oasi and Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar. The exhibition has been made possible through the kind support of Dhalia, Bank of Valletta. Island Caterers, Demajo Wines and Spirits, HSBC, Impressions, Gozo Express, Frank Salt Investments.
The event will be open to the public tomorrow, May the 10th, and also on the 11th, 17th and 18th of May from 10.00am to 12.30pm and 4.30pm to 7.00pm, or on request by phoning 21562074.
