Gozitan students who won prizes in a number of philately competitions organised by the student's magazine, Saghtar, received their prizes at a prize giving ceremony held for the first time in Gozo.
The ceremony was held in Gozo following collaboration between the Malta Union of Teachers, publishers of the student's magazine, and Maltapost, which offers substantial prizes for philately related competitions.
In a short address before the presentation, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono thanked Maltapost for arranging to hold the ceremony in Gozo. Minister Debono urged students to continue with this hobby, which she described as both educational and recreational.
Maltapost Chief Executive Officer Joe Gafa expressed his satisfaction at the encouraging number of Gozitan students participating in the Saghtar competitions. Mr Gafa said Maltapost had every intention to continue supporting the magazine in this praiseworthy initiative, adding that in his view, both the magazine and philately were a means of education and culture.
