Two years ago San Lawrenz council was selected as a model to other European Councils on social twinning. Now, once again, the San Lawrenz council, the only one from Gozo, together with another one from Malta, that of Zejtun Local Council, have been selected from other European localities participating in this programme.
The council has been recognised for its promotion of gender equality in education, cultural and sports activities. Another point that attracted the Commission's attention was the fact that the outings organised by the council are targeted mainly for the whole family, rather than just for one gender only.
Mayor Formosa said that he felt extremely proud to receive this acknowledgement. "This means that the council's performance is not only being appreciated locally but also on an international basis. This continues to demonstrate that the council's performance is moving ahead steadily on the right track."
He concluded by saying that he liked to watch people enjoying the outings and activities being organised for them. He also took the opportunity to thank everyone involved, in particular the council's staff who, he said, are constantly ensuring that the council's policies are adequately implemented.
