Sadly, the most beautiful bay in the Maltese Islands, Ramla Bay, is in imminent danger of being severely exploited by developers, who are forging ahead with their plans to build no less than 23 villas with pools and underground parking just below Calypso's cave. Ramla Bay as we now know it will be no more.
The application for building this tourist complex was unbelievably approved by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority on Wednesday.
The news was widely reported in the Maltese media and the general public are in shock, nobody ever imagined that MEPA could give the green light to the destruction of what is widely regarded as the nicest bay in Malta.
The Environmental NGO's and the Xaghra Local Council have strongly condemned this unprecedented decision.
Tomorrow, Sunday 10th of June at 2pm, a protest and a press-conference is to be held on site at Ramla Bay. The event is being organized by Alternattiva Demokratika, the Maltese green party, but this will not be a political activity, this will be our chance to do something and defend Ramla Bay for the interest of all Xaghrin, all Gozitans, and all those who enjoy our lovely bay.
We all should be proud to show that we care about our heritage and our environment. A few individuals will get rich by destroying our very own Ramla Bay....We cannot accept that!
Everyone is invited to come to Ramla Bay tomorrow at 2pm. So bring your family and friends with you... Enjoy the afternoon by the sea and let's show everyone watching the news on Sunday evening that Ramla Bay is not for sale!
