On his recent visit to Australia, the Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi, met with the Maltese community in Melbourne. Dr. Gonzi was presented with a tole painting of Malta Opera House as a momento of his visit, the painting was created by a Gozitan immigrant living in Melbourne, Margaret Grech.
The Prime Minister also visited Hydro Produce Ltd in Sydney, which is owned by another Gozitan, Billy Cassar. Mr Cassar’s company has been at the forefront of developing technology which enables farmers to use revolutionary growing techniques, which enables it to supply the markets all year round, without relying on imported produce. The company has a workforce of ninety three persons, almost half of which are Gozitan and Maltese immigrants.
