The Gozo Business Chamber has welcomed the announcement made by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono regarding the development of the educational complex in Victoria.
The chamber said that while it agrees with the project proposal which includes an underground car park on two levels for about 700 cars, it hopes that this parking will not replace the area in the bus terminus that has been pinpointed to provide better parking facilities in Victoria.
The Business Chamber added that parking in the Gozitan capital has become a nightmare and is proving to be a barrier for the commercial sector in Rabat.
As a short term solution, the chamber proposed the opening of the ditch and the parking area close to the Cathedral, so that business will start to regain its strength.
Moreover, it suggested that if the project at the educational complex project is completed before the one at the bus terminus, the underground car park should be open for government employees who work at the Administration Centre in St Francis Square.
It added that a minibus shuttle service should be provided for these employees during working hours. The Business Chamber said that it is only in this way that the parking problem in Rabat may be lessened.
