Gozitan and Maltese farmers will be benefiting from more than 20 million Euros in funding for the third year running.
Eighty per cent will come from the EU with the remainder provided by the Maltese government, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries Frans Agius said.
Dr Agius said these funds can be used to restore rubble walls, for tomato processing and as well as assistance for organic farming, among other projects.
He said that farmers must register their land with the Office of Administration and Land Control before applying for funds. Strict conditions including the conservation of soils, better use of water, pesticide and fertiliser use together with observance of environment directives must be followed if funds are to be granted, Dr Agius added.
Farmers may apply at a one-stop shop which will process applications till 8 May. He said the government is also preparing an information campaign for farmers and the public about EU assistance to the agricultural sector.
