Malta Labour Party Leader, Dr Alfred Sant, has criticised last nights budget for failing to provide a strategy against the increasing cost of living. Dr Sant said that that the budget gives too little too late, adding that the cost of living continues to rise.
The Labour Leader said that although the budget promised numerous initiatives, the government always fails to follow them through, as had happened in the past. He said that the education sector was one such example, stating that in the current year the government had spent 20 Million Euros less than was originally allocated, adding that the capital sum allocated for 2008 is less than that of 2007.
Dr Sant said that the government had presented no concrete strategies to address the increase in prices of essential products and to create more job opportunities. He concluded by saying that the country deserves a change and that only the Labour party is capable of accomplishing this with its plans for a new beginning.
