Preceding the ‘International Day of Disabled Persons’, the Adult Training Centre in Ghajnsielem Gozo is organising an Open Week for the general public to become more familiar with the different services on offer.
The Adult Training Centre hosts persons with special needs during the day, offering respite and rehabilitation facilities as well as specialised training in basic skills to facilitate independent life at home and in the community. Service users are also given specific training and therapy in order to develop potential abilities as well as to prepare them for a possible life at work.
In this regard the administration of the Adult Training Centre, which falls within the Customer Services Department of the Ministry for Gozo, is opening its doors to the general public during an open week held between today and 30 November 2007 between 8.30am to 2.30pm. The general public is being invited to attend.
Visitors will be able to perceive the abilities of those who regularly make use of the services provided at this centre by careworkers and other personnel. Around forty three persons are picked up daily from their residences in Gozo and taken to the centre in Ghajnsielem where a diversified programme of activities, based on their special requirements, is organised for them. Activities include Crafts, Carpentry work, Stained Glass and Metal Works, Pottery, Gardening and also Computer learning sessions. Those attending this centre are also taken for a number of hydrotherapy sessions thoughout the year as well as for other outings in Gozo and in Malta.
During the Open week an exhibition featuring various items made by the users of services at the Adult Training Centre will be put on display, also serving as proof of these persons’ abilities and skills. The ATC has been offering its services in Gozo for the last twenty eight years, incessantly giving support to people with special needs and their families in Gozo.
