Replying to a parliamentary question tabled by Labour MP Justyne Caruana, the Gozo Minister, Giovanna Debono, has confirmed that there is currently no equipment available for breast screening in Gozo. The Minister added that the Gozo General Hospital’s X-Ray department is scheduled to be refurbished and that the necessary medical equipment would then be introduced.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in Maltese women and it is the main cause of death for Maltese women under the age of fifty. If detected early, breast cancer may be curable. The best way that women can ensure that breast cancer is detected in its earliest, most treatable stage, is to practice monthly self-examinations.
