Works recently carried out were inaugurated at the Oratory Don Bosco, in Victoria Gozo, where extensive works included the installation of artificial turf and the refurbishment of the football gound and nearby areas. His Excellency Mgr. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo concelebrated mass for the occasion on Sunday, February 10, 2008. This was followed by a ceremony during which the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, inaugurated the new football ground with Bishop Grech officiating the blessing.
A financial donation by the Ministry for Gozo was instrumental in the transformation within this ground and related areas. The new facilities include a 7-a-side football pitch which incorporates two 5-a-side pitches. The sanitary facilities together with the dressing rooms were completely refurbished and new lights were installed providing a secure and modern sport environment which is frequented by numerous Gozitan youths and families.
On addressing those present, the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, praised the initiative taken by the Oratory Don Bosco Administration through which sport and recreational facilities for Gozitan youths and children are being enhanced. Minister Debono explained how the financial support of the Ministry for Gozo resulted in an agreement which will allow the use of these facilities for sports activities organised throughout the coming seven years by the Sir Arturo Primary School of Vajringa Street. In this way sport facilities within the educational sector in Gozo will continue to be enhanced following other modernisation works effected during recent years within government schools in Gozo. These works included laying of artificial turf and refurbishments of school halls in various schools.
The Don Bosco Oratory initiated its service to youth in Gozo in 1949 and today it offers an educational and recreational environment to Gozitan children, youths and families who attend the numerous social and religious activities organised regularly.
