A number of projects will be embarked upon in Gozo this year, the majority financed by the EU, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said today in an EU meeting in Malta.

Speaking during a social activity in Gozo over the weekend, the Prime Minister said work will be carried out on a number of arterial roads and a training hotel will be built for tourism studies students.

Work on the Mgarr terminal will carry on and another road leading from the terminal into Gozo may be built.

The Prime Minister said the government wanted to create more jobs in Gozo and would be helping small and medium enterprises to export their products. Help will also be given to the self-employed.

The country, he said, will continue to build on the successes it had achieved last year, when the economy grew more than forecast, particularly in the second half of the year.

Dr Gonzi accused the opposition of lacking ideas and making a mess of things whatever it said or did. He referred in this context to Labour deputy leader Charles Mangion, who was the notary in the sale of Pender Place which Dr Mangion and the MLP had criticised.

The Prime Minister questioned how serious and consistent this was.
