Fr. Sandro Overend OFM was recently elected the new Minister Provincial of the Maltese Franciscan Province. He was elected by the friars gathered at the Provincial Chapter at Porziuncola Retreat House, and his appointment was confirmed by the General Government of the Order represented by the President of the Chapter Fr. Austin McCormack OFM.
The election followed upon the celebration of the votive Mass of the Holy Spirit. Fr. Richard Stanley Grech was elected as Vicar Provincial.
One of his first visits of this Chapter was to the Franciscan community in Ghajnsielem, especially since Fr Richard's father Paul Grech is from Ghajnsielem. Both Fr. Sandro and Fr Richard have a special relationship with the Gozitan community.
During their visit, a thankgiving mass was held. Archpriest Can Frankie Bajada also met with the delegation and augured them best wishes for the future. Fr. Sandro and Fr Richard also met the local community whilst partaking of some refreshments at the St Anthony's Parish Center.
