The first part of the second phase of works on the redevelopment of the present Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex in Victoria, Gozo, got underway this week. The works involved the demolition of part of the existing structure comprising old classrooms and workshops, lying adjacent to the first new block which is now completed.

As soon as demolition works are finished, excavation works related to the eventual building of another area next to the present new structure, will start. This includes an extension to the car-park, other educational facilities as well as the continuation of the three top storeys allocated to the new school.

Tenders connected with finishing works within the first block are being evaluated whilst administrative measures are being considered in order to ensure appropriate distribution of classes for the oncoming scholastic year.

The Gozo Ministry said that this ambitious project will provide the island of Gozo with a brand new secondary school for boys, having the appropriate structure and facilities that can meet the needs of modern times within the educational sector. This will translate in better access, a safer and more attractive environment, as well as in the provision of quality learning to Gozitan students attending this school.

This infrastructural project entails an investment of €7 million and is being co-ordinated by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo. The Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity, Dolores Cristina, and the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, have recently visited the site accompanied by architect in charge of works, Mr Andrew Ellul, together with Dr Frank Abela, Head of School.
