The gas tanker Avgaz 5 docked yesterday and started unloading gas for bottling at the Qajjenza, Birzebbuga depot as the rough sea of the past few days calmed down.
The ship brought over a consignment of gas from Turkey. It had been waiting outside Marsaxlokk since last Saturday as it had been unsafe to enter port.
Before arriving the ship had experienced another delay of four days because of the rough weather in the Mediterranean. Originally the ship was expected on January 24.
In a statement, the Industry Ministry said the situation in regard to supply of gas cylinders was completely normal, no shortage existed and supplies in cylinders satisfied the demand of clients.
The ministry said that after the strong wind abated yesterday, the Malta Maritime Authority authorised the Avgaz 5 to enter port and the ship started unloading gas.
It said Enemalta had taken measures to ensure an adequate and continuous supply of gas.
