Nature Trust (Malta) has condemned the recent vandal attack on the tamarisk trees planted at the Dwejra Heritage Park in a joined venture with the 34U and the San Lawrenz Local Council.
Between Saturday and Sunday night most of the trees that had been planted were stolen by an unknown person or persons. The NGO said that this shows that there are still individuals who will still act against our natural heritage and society.
The trees had been planted by various children and their parents within the park and each tree was labelled with a tag with the name of the child or parent that had adopted the tree.
Nature Trust said they will be sparing no effort to replace the trees for the sake of those children who had donated money to adopt a tree showing their environmental awareness. The tamarisk trees where part of the conservation project activities to restore the area and mitigate some of the effects of the quarrying activities within the site.
The NGO has urged the Gozo police to make all efforts to apprehend the culprits.
