The National Blood Transfusion Service has said that there is a continuing lack of blood donations being given in the Maltese islands which causes a delay or postponement of certain surgical operations.
Blood provision is crucial in special emergencies and for patients with chronic diseases who depend on regular weekly or bi-monthly donations. It is a matter of life-or-death for some of these patients or for emergency victims, so it is highly important that the public is generous.
The Blood Donation Centre in Malta, which is situated next to St Luke's Hospital, is open daily between 8.00am and 6.00pm, including public holidays.
Here in Gozo, the Gozo General Hospital is open for donations Monday to Saturday from 8.00am to 11.30am. Donors are required to present an identification document.
