A 52-year-old man from Ghajnsielem, Mr Nazzareno Sultana, is in critical condition after he was involved in a traffic accident in Triq l-Imgarr on Wednesday evening.
First indications, the police said, show that the incident occurred at about 9.15 pm when a Rover Metro car driven by Mr Teddy Bajada aged 50 of Sannat and the Yamaha V80 motorcycle being ridden by Mr Sultana collided as they were being driven in opposite directions.
Both the car and the motorcycle sustained substantial damage.
An ambulance took the injured man to the General Hospital and he was subsequently transferred to St Luke's Hospital in Malta where he was admitted to the Intensive Therapy Unit.
Duty magistrate Tonio Micallef has appointed experts to assist in an inquiry and police investigations are continuing.
