The Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi, speaking at Marsalforn today, said that more remains to be done to exploit Gozo’s potential in order to improve its economy and reduce unemployment. Dr Gonzi added that his government had invested heavily on the island and would continue to do so if returned after the general election.
It was important, he said, that Gozo participates fully in the developments in information technology, and that progress had already been made with the recent setting up of service companies in Gozo.
Dr Gonzi added that Gozo also needed to be better promoted as a distinct tourism destination and the government, which had given a voice to the island in Cabinet, wanted Gozo to also have a stronger voice in other sections of the government and in Europe.
Dr Gonzi pointed out the work which had already been done by the government in Gozo over the past few years, including the ongoing rebuilding of roads, the building of new schools, better facilities at Gozo hospital and the new ferry terminal at Mgarr. He added that he “could not wait” to launch Gozo as an eco-island, a development which would mean a better quality of life for all Gozitans.
He also said that Gozitan businesses will also benefit from Nationalist policies by means of less cost, less taxes, more money in pockets and therefore more investment for more work and better work.

‘More remains to be done’ indeed. What is most needed however is to put the interest of Gozo before that of ANY political party.
