The Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, has appointed Mgr Paul Cardona, from Sannat, as the new archpriest of St George's Basilica. The new archpriest takes over from Mgr Joseph Farrugia who has led the St George parish for the last nine years. Mgr Farrugia has been appointed as the Bishop's Delegate for Education and Culture.
Mgr Cardona, who takes over the parish of St George with immediate effect, was parish priest of the parish of St Laborius, in Rome. He was ordained in 1977, during the same liturgy in which his predecessor at St George's had been ordained deacon.
