Malta Environmental and Planning Authority (Mepa) have ordered the immediate removal of the large amount of construction waste that was illegally dumped in the L-Infern valley near Qbajjar Bay, Marsalforn.
They have intervened more quickly than usual because they are concerned that a far more widespread problem would be caused if the waste is not moved before any heavy rainfall occurs.
A contractor from Malta has been engaged by Mepa to deal with the waste, the removal is already underway using a large mechanical digger and trucks brought over from Malta.
