A 36-hour fund-raising sports marathon will take place at the Seminary Sports Complex, Victoria, between October 27th and 29th starting at 9 a.m.
Funds raised will go towards the building of a socio-pastoral centre, which will house a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu and also towards a sports ground for youths in Albania.
The marathon will kick off with a song festival open to Gozitan singers and will involve various sports tournaments throughout the event. Football tournaments for club nurseries at under 8, under 10 and under 12 levels, handball, billiards, table-tennis and PlayStation competitions will all feature on October 28.
A car wash will also be organised in the car park next to the Arkadia shopping complex. Football tournaments will then continue for under 14s, over 30s and support clubs throughout October 29 as well as a basketball tournament and women’s soccer.
Apart from sports, the event will host a Battle of the Bands for local rock groups, a fashion show, performances by a number of singers and dance groups including Ira Losco, David Azzopardi, Manwel, Pamela, Yada Gozo, and Roberta Cassar among others.
