Maltapost donation to Dar tal-Provvidenza on Bishop’s proviso

Dar-Tal-Providenza.gifThe Siggiewi Home Dar tal-Provvidenza has received a donation by Maltapost of just over Lm4,400. This was made possible after Archbishop Paul Cremona and Gozo Bishop Mario Grech authorised Maltapost to issue Occasion Cards and Commemorative Cover carrying their photographs, with the proviso that half of the profits from sales of the Cards and Covers would go towards Dar tal-Providenza.

The two Occasion Cards issued by the Philatelic Bureau had depicted Archbishop Cremona and Bishop Grech respectively, and had carried an imprinted stamp with a 51c / Euro 1.19 face value, originally designed by the late Chev. E.V. Cremona. This stamp had been issued on the 9th of September 1960, to commemorate the XIX centenary of St Paul’s shipwreck, and depicts the episcopal consegration of Malta’s first bishop, St Publius.

The Commemorative Cover had featured two personalised stamps, with the images of Archbishop Cremona and Bishop Grech. The Cover also showed the Maltese Islands, the crests of both Bishops and the crozier.

The presentation of a cheque for Lm4,405 to Siggiewi Homes Director Monsignor Lawrence Gatt was made by Maltapost Chief Executive Office Officer Joe Gafa’. The Maltapost Board of Management were present for the occasion, and were later shown around the facilities offered at the Siggiewi Homes.
