Updated: The Malta Hearses Association has announced that its members are no longer on strike and will return to working normally today.
The Association has also pulled out of the Malta Transport Federation saying it could never condone the use of violence against people or property.
The Association added, "We never wanted to do any harm to our country. For the past 50 years, we have always provided service, transporting corpses in the interest of public health and at nominal cost."
Update: The agreement reached with the Government will provide a €230,000 grant to the Association to help it deal with the realities of a liberalized sector. It was also agreed that for the next ten years no new permits will be issued for second-hand hearses.
The Association is also bound by the agreement to declare itself in favor of liberalization.
Meanwhile, there are no reports of any further incidents this morning, although there is still a heavy police presence on the roads around Valletta and the Malta International Airport.
Funerals are taking place under police escort and tourist buses are operating with two policemen aboard each bus. The Sliema - Valletta Ferry is also reported to be back in service.
