Amendments to the Trading Licensing Regulations, Legal Notice 1/2006, will allow commercial outlets to stay open until 10pm every day, including Sundays and public holidays, between 1 November and 7 January.
The announcement was made yesterday by Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and the Self Employed, Edwin Vassallo, who stressed that these new Christmas period shopping hours were entirely voluntary, and that it was up to the individual shops to decide whether to take advantage of this opportunity or not.
Mr Vassallo reminded shop owners that those who wish to stay open for late night shopping before 1st November are able to do so on one day of the week, by completing a form at the Trade Licensing Unit.
These forms are available from local council offices, or online at www.mcmp.gov.mt/commerce or from the TLU itself, which is located in the Commerce Division, Lascaris, Valletta.
