The Labour Party has outlined its development plan to generate jobs in Gozo for the Gozitans whilst saying that the government has deceived Gozitans by not fulfilling its promises.
Dr Charles Mangion, the Deputy Labour Leader, visited a number of projects in Gozo which, he said, "confirmed how the aspirations of Gozitan families are not being given attention."
He said that the Mgarr quay was an example of the government's incompetence and deception, pointing out that more than four years after it was supposed to be completed, it was still incomplete.
.Referring to the Mgarr quay, Dr Mangion said that the project was another example of the government's incompetence and was scheduled to be completed by 2003. The cost had also risen from the original estimate of Lm8 million to Lm15 million.
"Ghajnsielem road is yet another project which highlights the government's incompetence. Most of the work on the road was carried out in summer, creating confusion and inconvenience around the island." Dr Mangion added.
Dr Mangion also said the goalposts had shifted several times when it came to the completion of the drainage recycling plant in Gozo, which was also not yet finished.
Amongst its proposals, a new Labour government would set up a regional council for Gozo, which would be responsible for drawing up a plan for economic and social development. The proposals would also include the construction of a yacht marina and a golf course, and the enlargement of sandy beaches in Marsalforn and Xlendi, Dr Mangion concluded
