Opposition leader Alfred Sant said yesterday that protests against planned development at Hondoq ir-Rummien, Gozo, were justified and deserved support.
Dr Sant said the Nationalist government was proposing a project for the site that would include villas, luxury apartments, a hotel and a yacht marina.
Touring the site, Dr Sant said that this was an area of substantial tourist and recreational potential and the proposed project would amount to speculation and exploitation of priceless land, without creating sustainable jobs.
The only motivation for the proposed project was that some people wanted to make huge profits.
